Unsupervised classification of multivariate geostatistical data: Two algorithms

چکیده
8 With the increasing development of remote sensing platforms and the evolution of sampling facilities in mining and oil industry, spatial datasets are becoming increasingly large, inform a growing number of variables and cover wider and wider areas. Therefore, it is often necessary to split the domain of study to account for radically different behaviors of the natural phenomenon over the domain and to simplify the subsequent modeling step. The definition of these areas can be seen as a problem of unsupervised classification, or clustering, where we try to divide the domain into homogeneous domains with respect to the values taken by the variables in hand. The application of classical clustering methods, designed for independent observations, does not ensure the spatial coherence of the resulting classes. Image segmentation methods, based e.g. on Markov random fields, are not adapted to irregularly sampled data. Other existing approaches, based on mixtures of Gaussian random functions estimated via the Expectation-Maximization algorithm, are limited to reasonable sample sizes and a small number of variables. In this work, we propose two algorithms based on adaptations of classical algorithms to multivariate geostatistical data. Both algorithms are model free and can handle large volumes of multivariate, irregularly spaced data. The first one proceeds by agglomerative hierarchical clustering. The spatial coherence is ensured by a proximity condition imposed for two clusters to merge. This proximity condition relies on a graph organizing the data in the coordinates space. The hierarchical algorithm can then be seen as a graph-partitioning algorithm. Following this interpretation, a spatial version of the spectral clustering algorithm is also proposed. The performances of both algorithms are assessed on toy examples and a mining dataset. Preprint submitted to Computers & Geosciences January 12, 2015

متن کاملOptimization of sediment rating curve coefficients using evolutionary algorithms and unsupervised artificial neural network
Sediment rating curve (SRC) is a conventional and a common regression model in estimating suspended sediment load (SSL) of flow discharge. However, in most cases the data log-transformation in SRC models causing a bias which underestimates SSL prediction. In this study, using the daily stream flow and suspended sediment load data from Shalman hydrometric station on Shalmanroud River, Guilan Pro...
متن کاملDeep Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Image Classification via Low Rank Representation Learning
Domain adaptation is a powerful technique given a wide amount of labeled data from similar attributes in different domains. In real-world applications, there is a huge number of data but almost more of them are unlabeled. It is effective in image classification where it is expensive and time-consuming to obtain adequate label data. We propose a novel method named DALRRL, which consists of deep ...

Due to its mobility and ability to move and its direct impact on residential areas and various developmental activities, the Ergs are of major importance in the desert areas, so monitoring of those is very important. Considering that the use of supervised and unguarded methods is considered as one of the most common methods in determining and monitoring land uses, in this research, the accuracy...
متن کاملMultivariate Stream Data Classification Using Simple Text Classifiers
We introduce a classification framework for continuous multivariate stream data. The proposed approach works in two steps. In the preprocessing step, it takes as input a sliding window of multivariate stream data and discretizes the data in the window into a string of symbols that characterize the signal changes. In the classification step, it uses a simple text classification algorithm to clas...
